One of several recent travel trends I find quite interesting is the rise in staycations, i.e., vacations spent in one’s own hometown or very nearby. Being a full-time traveler, I never quite found the time nor considered staying at a hotel in Zurich (where I live), but recently decided it was time I got to know the hotels here as well.

There are several reasons why one would consider a staycation. Perhaps the most common reason is to treat oneself to a special hotel stay without incurring into the costs and stress of transportation, such as the cost of a flight ticket and long waits at the airport.

A couple of weeks ago, I spent a night at Steigenberger Bellerive au Lac, of which I knew the facade very well, given its location on Zurich’s lake promenade and only a 10-minute walk from Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s main shopping street. Even more: it takes only 20 minutes to walk to the hotel from my place. However, I had never been inside the building before.

I stayed in a spacious room with modern interiors on the third floor. Definitely the most stunning part of the room was the fabulous view over Lake Zurich. I loved it.
أقمت في غرفة واسعة ذات ديكورات داخلية عصرية في الطابق الثالث. وبالتأكيد كان الجزء الأكثر روعة بالغرفة هي الإطلالة الرائعة على بحيرة زيورخ. أعجبتني للغاية
The room had a small balcony as well, but the weather was too cold to sit outdoors. Regardless of the weather, the busy road alongside the lake means it could get noisy at times if one keeps the window open.

The hotel’s restaurant, Vivus, is on the first floor and offers a great view of the lake. The restaurant has been recently renovated and, since November 2013, has a new executive chef, Fabian Knobel, who leads a team of eight cooks and has introduced new seasonal dishes to the restaurant’s menu.
مطعم الفندق فيفوس يقع في الطابق الأول، ويمتع زائريه بمنظر البحيرة الرائع. والمطعم تم تجديده مؤخراً ومنذ نوفمبر عام 2013 لديه رئيس طهاه جديد، فابيان كنوبل، والذي يقود فريقاً من ثمانية طهاة، واستحدث أطباق موسمية جديدة إلى قائمة المطعم
I went there for lunch and was glad to see several vegetarian dishes on both the weekly lunch menu and the main all-day menu. I had an open lasagna with portobello mushrooms and buffalo mozzarella. Despite the word “lasagna”, there was no pasta in the dish – but I wasn’t disappointed at all, since it really did taste very good.

Right next to the restaurant is the hotel bar. I checked it out once during my stay for a latte in the afternoon. It was a calm and pleasant spot to catch up on some reading, and the service was very friendly.
بجوار المطعم يوجد مقهى الفندق. راجعته مرة أثناء وجودي لتناول الحليب في فترة ما بعد الظهر. مكان هادئ لطيف مناسب للقراءة، والخدمة كانت ودية للغاية
Fitness and wellness lovers like myself will like the hotel’s wellness area, which includes a sauna, water park shower, solarium, relaxation room, and fitness room with several machines.
محبي اللياقة البدنية والأهتمام بالصحة مثلي ستعجبهم منطقة العافية في الفندق، والتي تضم ساونا، حديقة دش مائية، سولاريوم، غرفة استرخاء وغرفة للياقة البدنية بها العديد من الآلات
One of things I liked the most about the hotel was the music one could here in the background in the corridors. Soft background music always puts me in a good mood.
أحد أكثر الأشياء التي أحببتها بالفندق هي الموسيقى التي يمكن للمرء الأستماع اليها بخلفية ممرات الفندق. إن الموسيقى الهادئة دائماً ما تضعني في مزاج جيد
My verdict: Steigenberger Bellerive au Lac is ideal for travelers who want a centrally-located hotel with fabulous views of Lake Zurich.
